The food is beyond excellent. They really feed you here, and they work hard on providing the best cuisine. This is important because much of the medication taken at any psychiatric facility demands a full stomach, and, let's face it - eating can be an antidepressant activity itself.

If i could give a lower star I would have. My daughter is currently locked up in this hell hole. On a unit that is not appropriate for her. These people are not looking after her welfare. She has gotten MUCH worse and its only been 2 weeks. They are more interested in getting people committed then actually being therapeutic and doing their jobs. She is currently cut off from her family and they will not let her speak to anyone on the outside, violating her rights. She has to sneak phone calls and tells me how horrible the place is. This place needs to be investigated. Its not supposed to be a prison for the mentally ill. They are supposed to be helping them, not just drugging them up!!!!!

Any inpatient psychiatric experience is bound to be filled with stress and unpredictability. Such is life. But if you have to go inpatient, go here. They will care for you and keep you busy and productive. Their follow-up is also admirable.

absolutely disrespectful in all manners. not a place for those who are ill and seeking help.

My requests were always handed with the utmost sympathy and no one, not on ANY occasion, acted inappropriately towards me. Knowing I was in a secure environment, I did nothing to make staffers' jobs more difficult or dangerous. I was always cooperative, and while I always knew my rights, I also knew of the tremendous LEGAL power doctors and nurses could exercise over me, if they deemed it necessary.

years later i thought it would be good for my friend. i was very wrong. immediately upon arrival we were both treated rudely, being told we should not be there without even being able to explain the situation. after she was taken back i was kicked out because i was not family.

I recently spent over 4 weeks here.First you are assigned a therapist but you rarely sit down with one to get a picture of why you are there in the first place. They give you coping skills and when you say you are using that them there must be nothing wrong with you you are ready for discharge. I was told I had a review date but not told it was my discharge date.I find that very poor comunitication.I was basically put out feeling worse then when I came in.When a grown adult has been suffering with depression their whole life it isn't that easy to change over night. The report to my Dr stated that I refused to use the coping skills provided to me at Hamton house. When you have severe depression like do and the feelings of hopeless it's hard to see the light.I find the statement very callous and ignorant. I am learning that not everyone working in the mental health field cares or understands the patients trusted in their care. All the staff did was complain the air condition didn't work.Maybe they should use the coping skills that they give to the patients.I see there is one positive review at the top of the page.if you notice it wasn't from a patient. To be honest a person would get more out of going for one on one with a professional. I think the group theropy is a waste of time because you are in a room with people with many disorders .There are people in recovery from addiction, suicide attempt, people that have been released from prison. As far as someone commenting on the food , if you are only concerned about the quality of the food or quantity then your problems must not be that bad , people with severe depression like myself lose interests in food and other things ,that why you are here.Again if can afford it and have the resources get a good therapist's who is trained to find out what problems you have and then try to have a productive life.

it was the best place I've been for inpatient care (better than Carrier and UBHC), though thats not setting a high bar. They actually had good therapy, which was the main difference. Some of the groups were amazing and actually helped to deal with my issues. However, some staff members weren't very considerate when it came to my eating disorder. They also kinda gave up on certain rules, but that was in our favor. They did show a movie largely based on suicide though, which i have no idea why they let us see. But over all, it was good and I'm just nitpicking.

First, I want to warn readers about reviews for this facility. I have read them and I regard them as hugely unfair and written by people who, in my opinion, have an unrealistic viewpoint of what genuinely good inpatient psychiatric care is like. The bottom line is that psychiatric inpatients are in a secure, therapeutic environment. You cannot just casually stroll in and out, and that's the way it ought to be. If you qualify for admission to this facility, you need to be protected from your own worst inclinations.

I did end up going inpatient again a month after i got out of Hampton though, so it really didn't help a ton.

That being said, this is a fine facility, one of the best I've ever been in. I was recently a voluntary patient for approximately nine days. My stay was pleasant and the professionals that cared for me were highly competent, kind, patient and mostly in good spirits. The reason why I wrote 'mostly' is that like any other workplace, the moods of workers vary from day to day - but this never impacted the quality of my care.

The first time i went: extremely helpful

Also, I was in the adolescent ward and we had meals with the adult and geriatric wards. And from what i saw at meals, the staff members seemed to treat the patients a lot worse.

the second time: i was held against my will even though i am an adult. i was treated like a child and my mother was called in against my wishes. i had to leave "against medical advice"
